Trello’s official Salesforce Power-Up attaches Salesforce leads, contacts, opportunities and cases to Trello cards and keeps their key fields up to date — but only one way. Changes flow from Salesforce into Trello, never back. If your team needs a card move to update a Salesforce record, you need a two-way sync tool instead. If they mostly want a board view of Salesforce work, a Kanban view inside Salesforce is often the better answer.
The official Trello Salesforce Power-Up: what it syncs
- What it attaches: leads, contacts, opportunities and cases. Search for a record from the card, or paste a Salesforce record URL into it.
- What it shows: key fields such as stage, close date and amount, on the card. When they change in Salesforce, the card updates.
- What it does not do: write anything back to Salesforce. Moving a card, changing a due date or adding a comment in Trello stays in Trello.
- What it needs: a Salesforce edition with API access — Enterprise, Unlimited, Developer or Performance.
For a delivery or onboarding team that wants the opportunity’s details on the card it is working from, that is often enough.
When you need a two-way Trello integration
You need two-way sync when the board is where work is actually decided — a card moving to “Done” should close a case, or a new card should create a Salesforce task. Three routes cover it:
| Option | Direction | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official Salesforce Power-Up | Salesforce → Trello | Seeing record details on cards | Nothing written back; API edition needed |
| Two-way sync tools (Unito, Zapier and similar) | Both ways | Card status and fields driving Salesforce records | Field ownership: decide which side wins each field |
| Salesforce-native board (Kanban list view, Path) | No sync needed | Teams that live in Salesforce already | Less flexible than Trello for ad-hoc boards |
Trello cards to Salesforce records: coverage vs effort
| Trello | Salesforce | Typical use | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card | Task | Follow-ups a rep owns | Low |
| Card on a deal board | Opportunity | Pipeline reviews run from a board | Medium: stage mapping per list |
| Card on a support board | Case | Escalations worked by a delivery team | Medium: status and owner mapping |
| Checklist and comments | Task comments or Chatter | Audit trail on the record | High, and rarely worth it |
Map lists to stages or statuses one-to-one. A board where two lists mean the same Salesforce stage will flip records back and forth.
Should you even use Trello with Salesforce?
Often the honest answer is no. Salesforce list views can display opportunities, cases or any custom object as a Kanban board grouped by stage or status, with drag-and-drop that updates the record directly, and Path shows the same stages on each record with guidance for each one. For a team whose data already lives in Salesforce, that removes a second tool and a sync to maintain.
Keep Trello when the board serves people who do not have Salesforce licences, or when the work on the board is broader than any one Salesforce object. Then use the Power-Up for visibility, and a two-way tool only for the few fields that must write back.
Trello sits among the Salesforce integrations we build; if the answer is a native board instead, that is Lightning development.
Trello–Salesforce FAQ
Does Trello integrate with Salesforce?
Yes. The official Salesforce Power-Up attaches leads, contacts, opportunities and cases to Trello cards and shows their key fields. It syncs one way, from Salesforce to Trello.
Is the Trello Salesforce Power-Up two-way?
No. Changes in Salesforce update the card, but nothing done in Trello is written back. Two-way sync needs a third-party tool such as Unito or Zapier.
Which Salesforce editions work with the Trello Power-Up?
Editions with API access: Enterprise, Unlimited, Developer and Performance.
Can a Trello card create a Salesforce record?
Not with the official Power-Up. A two-way sync or automation tool can create a task, case or opportunity when a card is added to a chosen list.
Is there a Trello-style board inside Salesforce?
Yes. List views can display records as a Kanban board grouped by a picklist such as stage or status, and dragging a card updates the record.
